Evaluation of the Central African Regional Program for the Environment (CARPE) – Phase II

CARPE Phase II was recently evaluated by an external team. Starting in 1995 CARPE was initially proposed as a 20 year program by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). CARPE was initially designed to be implemented in three phases, with Phase II finalizing in September 2011. The evaluation supported the idea that CARPE should proceed with implementing a third phase. The recommendation is that the third phase should run to at least 2017 if not 2020, due to the importance of the Congo Basin for biodiversity conservation and climate mitigation.
